ÁRBOL DEL TULE

En el atrio del Templo de Santa María de la Asunción se encuentra el legendario Árbol del Tule. Los botánicos lo han clasificado como Taxodium mucionatum con una edad estimada en más de 2000 años. Su altura es de 40 metros, y su tronco tiene un perímetro de 42 metros.

Posee un volumen de 705 metros cúbicos y un peso aproximado de 509 020 kilogramos. Su tronco y ramas presentan variadas formas caprichosas conocidas, por la voz popular, con nombres como: "El Elefante", "El León", "Los Tres Reyes Magos", "El Venado", "La Piña" y "El Pez", entre otros. Este enorme ahuehuete da el nombre a la población y embellece la zona céntrica de la misma.

Los botánicos aseguran que tiene poco más de dos mil años de vida y en los libros especializados aparece como el árbol más viejo del mundo; este árbol es un sabino, clasificado por los botánicos como taxodium, mucionatum.

Hay que recordar que Tule proviene de tollin, planta acuática que crece en lugares pantanosos como lo fue éste. Para tener una idea de su tamaño, basta decir que a su sombra pueden cobijarse más de 500 personas y que 30 individuos tomados de la mano, con dificultad abarcan su perímetro. Su copa parece ser una gran cúpula de color verde, sus protuberancias formadas en su tronco semejan figuras de animales, frutas y personajes. Junto al Árbol existe un pequeño templo el cual se puede visitar, en donde se puede admirar su portada blanca, adornada con festones a base de hojas de laurel. El interior está bellamente decorado; tiene muros con pequeños retablos de madera, remembranzas del barroco del siglo XVII que lucen columnas cubiertas con hojas y racimos de uvas labradas, imágenes de santos, pinturas y esculturas de corte popular.

Se celebran en la localidad tres fiestas: La Asunción de María, el 15 de agosto con tres días de duración, con los siguientes eventos: mayordomía, calenda, fuegos artificiales; la Fiesta del Árbol del Tule, que se efectúa el segundo lunes de octubre, se hace un recorrido por las calles con Guelaguetza y ofrenda en la tarde, que consiste en regalar un collar de flores y un ramo de laurel y dulces entre los invitados y visitantes; y la Candelaria, que se efectúa el 2 de febrero con los siguientes eventos: mayordomía y fuegos artificiales.

This huge hollow gives the name to the population and beautifies the central area of ​​it.

Botanists say that it has just over two thousand years of life and in specialized books it appears as the oldest tree in the world; This tree is a sabino, classified by botanists as taxodium, mucionatum.

Remember that Tule comes from tollin, an aquatic plant that grows in swampy places like this one. To get an idea of ​​its size, it is enough to say that in its shadow more than 500 people can shelter and that 30 individuals holding hands, with difficulty cover its perimeter. Its cup seems to be a large green dome, its bumps formed on its trunk resemble figures of animals, fruits and characters. Next to the Tree there is a small temple which can be visited, where you can admire its white cover, adorned with scallops based on bay leaves. The interior is beautifully decorated; It has walls with small wooden altarpieces, remembrances of the 17th-century baroque that feature columns covered with leaves and bunches of carved grapes, images of saints, paintings and sculptures of popular cut.

Three parties are celebrated in the town: The Assumption of Mary, on August 15 with three days duration, with the following events: stewardship, calendar, fireworks; The Tule Tree Festival, which takes place on the second Monday of October, takes a tour of the streets with Guelaguetza and offering in the afternoon, which consists of giving a necklace of flowers and a bouquet of laurel and candy among the guests and visitors; and the Candelaria, which takes place on February 2 with the following events: stewardship and fireworks.
